What is Secularism? Is it a perfect System?
« on: September 08, 2006, 03:26:51 PM »
Secularism

Secularism has two distinct meanings.

1) It asserts the freedom of religion, and freedom from religion, within a state that is neutral on matters of belief, and gives no state privileges or subsidies to religions.

2) It refers to a belief that human activities and decisions should be based on evidence and fact, and not superstitious beliefs, however devoutly held, and that policy should be free from religious domination.

Secularism that doesnt mean that one muslim cant go to the mosque or one Christian cant go to the chruch in same way a zigri to zigarkhana But In secularism you are free to go any where nor secularism is all about western culture,You can follow your traditions its just a belief that religion should not be involved with the ordinary social and political activities of a country just because of some reasons even among muslims there is a conflict between shia and sunni so i think we should discuss about secularism.

I guess secularism is a perfect system ... Waiting for the opinions of other Brothers and Sisters.

yes secularism is perfect system for the world, its not true secularism does not allow anyone to follow his religion.Markist and Linon said in every time the poor people have been exploited in the name of religion so its better if we put the religion away from the state.
I don,t say its the perfect system for the world but its the best system in the world ever been introduced  in the world.

Dear brother in Islam:
Assalam-o-alaikum,

I thin I am "deyr aaYe durust aaYed" and surly you would not mind for my detail reply.

First for yours and other Muslim’s kind knowledge that Islam is not a religion it’s a complete system of life defined by the creator of mankind while Secularism is the system defined by the people they were fed-up of dictatorship of missionary and Jewish political bodies. Secularism rise in 20th century after First World War.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/religion/sites/timeline/pages/religion_in_wales_14.shtml

Suppose somebody asks you why you are Baloch you will instantly reply that because your parents are Baloch, if he asks why you are Muslim you will answer because your parents are Muslims. Then he says “It is mention in your holy book that Islam will be finally divided into 70 groups and only one group will go to heaven” your answer will be “yes” then he ask how do you know which group is on right path? You will become confused because you are not sure about his last question.

If he stated that Islam is very conservative religion then you just go through the education and life standards of Mullah’s and your answer will be in affirmative.

My dear brother it’s a big problems of we all Muslims that we don’t know any thing about Islam. Even we don’t bother to read about facts of Islam. It’s enough for us to see and follow our parents, fellows or so called Mullah’s without knowing the truth. That’s why theory of secularism can easily inspire us.

Brother do you think human mind is better then the creator’s of mankind?
If your answer is yes then at the end of their life why so many secular socialist became psychic/mad?

As you know a mother can better understand the psychology, nature and mood of her child as compare to his father because mother feels his heartbeat, his movement and a lot at that time when he was in her abdomen.

The creator of mankind (Allah(swt)) knows the nature, mood and needs of human-being that’s why he defined each and every thing in his Holy Book ie. Quran. The best follower of Islam is Muhammad (P.B.U.H) so if one wants to know about Islam he must has to study about life (sunnat) of Muhammad (P.B.U.H) instead of looking so called mullah’s life style.

May Allah (swt) show us the right path. (Aameen)

I dont mind sis,i did not want t say we should b free from religion but i m saying religion should be kept away from state.
Here is the definition of Secularism from wikipedia
"Secularism, in the more moderate sense, asserts the freedom of religion, and freedom from religion, within a state that is neutral on matters of belief, and gives no state privileges or subsidies to religions. (See also Separation of church and state; see also Laïcité.) "

"Secularism, in the more extreme sense, refers to a belief that human activities and decisions, especially political ones, should be based on what it considers to be evidence and fact, not on beliefs that secularists consider superstitious. Secularists hold that public policy should be free from religious influence. For example, a society deciding whether to promote condom use might consider the issues of disease prevention, family planning, and a belief in women's rights. A secularist would argue that such issues are relevant to public policy-making, whereas Biblical interpretation or church doctrine are irrelevant. Secularists believe that all activities falling outside of the private sphere should be secular, i.e. not religious"

I think secularism is the best system for a country that has mixed religious demographics. But for a country that is essentially Muslim, Islam provides a complete system of governance and I dont see why it should not be put into practice. I'm impressed by the way UAE, Qatar and Malaysia have used Islam in designing their modern system of government.

I have some reservations with secularists - esp among Baloch nationalists (yes LionOfDesert, BSO-NA group included). In secularism you don't favor one religion over another and respect all religions. But some Baloch secularists always make degradatory remarks against Islam and they are quite fascinated by Judaism. They are hurting the feelings of 90% of fellow Balochs by making fun of Islam. While I have no disrespect for Jews (I hate Zionists btw), I don't see why a secularist be fascinated by Israel, a country that is not by itself secular though it calls itself one. I expect the Baloch secularists to live up to their own values and start respecting Islam and Muslims.

Shah Mureed, I agree people have been exploited using religion, but Marxists and Lenonists have their own fair share of the exploitation of people. Use a better argument to support your views, communism/socialism has long been flushed into the garbage of history.
