ZINEDINE ZIDANE
On July 9, France lost the FIFA world cup final to Italy. The match pulled the curtain on French captain Zinedine Zidane magnificent career, as he retired from international soccer. Let us look into the life and illustrious career of one of the greatest footballers of all time.
Zidane or “Zizou” as his fans know him was born in Marseille, French national, to Algerian parents on June 23, 1972. He played for French national team (1994-2006) as well as four European Clubs, namely: Cannes (1988-92) , Bordeaux (1992-6), Juventus (1996-2001) and lastly Real Madrid (1996-2001).
The eagerly anticipated FIFA world cup was here. In the quarter finals, it was a rematch of 1998 final against Brazil. The only goal was scored by Thierry Henry but Zidane’s clever technique made him Man of the Match. In the semi finals against Portugal, Zidane’s penalty kick against Ricardo set up a final clash between France and Italy!
On July 9, Zidane played his final game. He was quick to score a goal, becoming one of the few players to have the honors of scoring in two World cup finals. In the massive controversy, Italy won the penalty shoot out 5-3 and won the World cup.

• Zidane has earned a great deal through endorsements. He has had sponsorship deals with companies such as Adidas, Lego, and Orange etc. In 2004, he was on Forbes list of highest earning athletes.
