« on: June 04, 2007, 08:48:41 PM »
The valid, reliable and comprehensive educational statistics data are pre-requisite for pragmatic planning and decision-making, resource allocation, monitoring and evaluation of education system. The National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) based in Academy of Educational Planning and Management (AEPAM) is responsible for consolidation of data transmitted by provincial/ regional EMISs. The NEMIS also coordinates and provides technical support to the provincial/ regional EMISs to enhance their data generating capacity and maintaining standards.
AEPAM have been publishing the Annual National Education Statistics Reports regularly since 1992-93. The NEMIS has published Pakistan Education Statistics 2004-05, which is the 13th National Report of this series. This is the summary based on Pakistan Education Statistics 2004-05. It contains summarized educational data pertaining to public sector educational institutions managed by Ministry of Education/ Education Departments as well institutions managed by other than the Ministry of Education/ Education Departments, private educational institutions, technical and vocational institutions, colleges, teacher training institutions, deeni madaris, universities and non-formal basic education centers. Efforts have been made to generate a comprehensive scenario of education in Pakistan. The figures of private schools as reported are based on Census of Private Educational Institutions in Pakistan, conducted by Federal Bureau of Statistics in 1999 and the National Sample Survey of Private Schools in Pakistan conducted by AEPAM in 2004. The report presents summarized information relating to number of educational institutions, enrolment, teachers and physical facilities by province/region, gender and location.

The availability of valid, reliable, comprehensive and up-to-date educational statistics are pre-requisite for pragmatic planning and decision-making, monitory and evaluation for improvement and development of education system. The National Education Management Information Systems (NEMIS) functioning in AEPAM is responsible for data-collection from ICT and FATA and consolidation of data at national level, provided by provincial EMIS units. The NEMIS also provides technical support to the provincial EMIS units for enhancing their skills and knowledge of computer personnel.
At present, the NEMIS is publishing reports covered the educational data of only public sector educational institutions up to higher secondary level. It does not cover the educational institutions, especially managed by other government departments. Private educational institutions as well as non-formal schools are also not covered by NEMIS. Thus, NEMIS is dependent upon the provincial EMIS units. Usually the private sector information is not provided by the provincial EMIS units to the NEMIS. The figures of private schools reported in the document are estimates based on 1992-93. Moreover, data from other governmental organizations, i.e. WAPDA, Cantt and Garrison, Pakistan Air force, Bahria, Fauji Foundation and MCs, NGOs needs to be incorporated in the national picture.
