« on: May 13, 2008, 02:48:17 PM »
Open the two pictures you want to work with

Picture 1

Picture 2

Select all (Ctrl+A) in Picture 2.
Copy and paste into Picture 1.
Set the layer transparency to 50%.

Then use the Eraser tool get rid of everything that shall not be in the picture. Use a big brushsize (about 65-100 p)

Great effects!  (y)

I'll share a few more tips on putting two pictures together. Just tool tricks:

For web graphics, we often merge pictures by having each picture in a separate layer. With the upper layer selected (Press F7 for the layer window if you can't see it. F7 works as a toggle, of course), we select one of the options for the drop-down menu  near the opacity option. By default it's set to 'normal' (which doesn't give the merge effect). Depending on the design requirements, we can select any other option, eg; Dissolve, darken, multiply, etc.

Quick Select (something like a magic wand on the main toolbar) can be used to select areas we don't want. Select and press back space.

If the colors are too many, Raji's method of using the eraser simply rocks but to be precise and careful with the edges, keep the brush size small (1px, 2px) and zoom into the picture (Ctrl +). Keep the brush edge soft.

Opacity should be used only when we want both the pictures to appear at the same time over one another. If we simply want a picture to be a part of another one (for example, my famous picture of a tux (penguin) coming out of my head), we wouldn't use opacity.
