WHY BALOCH CELEBRATE EID?

Eid-ul-fitr is the day of celebration for all the Muslims and therefore to celebrate this day in the best way a lot of arrangements are made by Muslims beforehand. On this day all the Muslims usually wear new clothes, men wearing white to spread peace and women also wear new clothes and apply henna (mehndi) on their hands along with bangles and other accessories. Muslims also decorate their houses in their own special ways to create a feel of Eid Festival among all the family members. The markets also remain open and decorated on the occasion of Eid for all the Muslims to do their shoppings. Children also enjoy this festival by wearing new clothes and playing games. Eid is the festival when all the children have a real fun time as they get gifts, clothes, sweets, perks and love from all their near and dear ones. Children also make special handmade Eid Greetings for all their Friends and notice all the Eid traditions followed by their parents and are excited to follow the same when they grow up.

Eid-ul-Fitr is a very big festival for all the Muslims and they celebrate it to their best. On the occasion of Eid the females cook Delicious mouth watering food and special Eid Food items and deserts. Eid is the festival to create an ambience of triumph, love and happiness all around. All the relatives and friends visit each other’s houses to have a get together and have delicious Eid Meal together to celebrate Eid.All of them greet each other by hugging each other and saying Eid Mubarak meaning Happy Eid.

IS IT AFFORDABLE FOR A POOR AND OPPRESSED BALOCH???

It is true that the real spirit and message of Eid has been lost in the extravaganza of new clothes, variety of dishes and fanfare of festivities. But that’s not what Eid is about.

It is an obligation on Muslims to give Zakat and Fitra before Eid, which carries the spirit of caring and sharing. The day of Eid is for expressing love, charity, compassion and this day provides an opportunity for broken relationships to be mended by forgiving and forgetting mistakes. This day is also meant for the Muslims to reflect internally with a purpose of self-accountability by seeing how they have spent the whole year of their life – how far they have succeeded (or failed) in fulfilling their personal and social obligations.

If the true spirit and purpose of Eid is followed by the Muslims in a society, then it would definitely be Mubarak for the whole society because on this day special Rehmat of Allah showers down, for which we must be grateful to Allah. And even the poorest of the Muslims would be able to afford it.

So we can not question Eid but we can question the way people celebrate it.

[If suppose we consider your question about the tragedy of Dera Bugti and Sui (which of course is a sad thing for the baloch people) and because of that reason, you say, Baloch should not celebrate Eid. Would you then also advise the Baloch people not to have celebrations on other occasions like marriages, etc., and specially no balochi cultural song programs since they do not address the Dera Bugti and Sui problems or Balouch issues in general]?

There is a angle for watching every issue, No doubt every one viewing same scene by his angle and point of view ...

As usual zb has started such a topic which may end with out a conclusion as people here still are not travelling in same boat for same destination ... as they are spread and first need to be united at one place ...

Meaning of life gets change periodicly with the ups and downs, As the meaning gets change the principles get change and then one is not obey to do like others ... for example one who is traveling from one place to another and during that travel he is not bounded with same restrictions as may be another person is ...
Baluch is in state of war , they are not having a common life which may be other person is having ... the life for a Baluch is completely distinct from others...
But that is another thing we dont have sufficient knowledge or may be there is lack of media which can convey the real picture of Baluch ....

Saying this then there should not be any Baluchi cultural programmes or any other national programmes then let me tell you , Resistance has vast meaning ...
If the purpose of that programme is to convey Baluch nation that you are distinct, you are denied by your rights and to spread Baluchi culture no one will go against of it as its part of resistance against that cruel force who is taking name of Islam ....
But as far as Baluchi marriages and programmes of that ceremony is concerned ... i tell you even these days In ceremonies ... there is completly change ...
Baluch's slavery can be seen .... i request you go and watch a wedding ceremony of a Baluch .. may be you will hear Revolutionary songs on their weddings (I am talking of karachi) Baluchistan is exceptional ... which shows they still remember the blood of martyrs ...

This will get vast and requires time else i would like to tell you about weddings of slave and whats going on in the minds of young Baluch ..

Salaam brother Meeren Baluch,

You have made a very good point. Baloch living at different places are having different mindsets depending on the environment they are living in. No question about that.

This is why we should appreciate sites like baask.com which provide a platform for Balochs of all mindsets to come together… to share their views in a way that can bring us closer to each other, rather than a way which can divide us away… and tolerance would be a great help in such a journey. Unless we listen to each other’s views with patience, without jumping to conclusions at once, we can not help each other understand why we think what we think.

Healthy arguments with difference of opinions should be welcome as they serve a good purpose in broadening our knowledge… but arguments that serve no purpose and only end up creating bitter feelings should be avoided as much as possible.

Now the question raised here, by brother ZB Baloch, is in such a way that it does not take into consideration the feelings and mindset of a majority of Baloch who happen to be Muslims, who equally feel the pain of the injustices and wrongs done to the Balouch Nation as they are not separate from this Nation. 

We will be able to stand against all kinds of odds only when we find the points that can unite us, not the ones that divide us… because we won’t be able to stand for our rights with an effective voice when all we are doing is only cutting ourselves into groups of various divisions. This is something we can’t afford.

So far as our brother’s question is concerned, to put it in a better way:
“Can baloch afford to celebrate Eid”…?

With that question he should have clarified his point of view by giving reasons as to why he thought baloch do not afford to celebrate Eid, and in what sense. Though he has tried to argue that point to an extent but the stress of his views was not upon the ‘wrong way of celebrating Eid’, rather he has questioned the Islamic concept of the ‘Eid’ itself. In other words he is asking whether it was right for the Baloch to follow Islamic concepts such as Eid. Like some others he also seems to be confusing Islam as an Arab thing, but then what about those Arabs who are not Muslims… why don’t they follow Islamic concepts. So Islam is not any community thing, it is a universal way of life meant for humans.

My intention of raising a counter question pointed at ‘balouchi cultural songs’ was not to undermine such programs, as they go a great deal to highlight the Baloch identity… I just wanted to see if asking such questions were in the right direction. If they are not, then do you think questions that undermine the religious practices of a great majority of the baloch are of any help to the Baloch nation?


[By the way, oppressors are oppressors no matter under what guise they oppress people be it in the name of ‘National Interest’, ‘Security’, ‘Prosperity’ or ‘Islam’… even America used the name of Islam to further its agenda against the USSR (Russia) through ‘mujahedeen’… and with that policy America not only succeeded in defeating the USSR but also succeeded in its agenda of terming Islam as ‘terrorism’ and Muslims as ‘terrorists’… but that doesn’t mean we should be ignorant (at our own loss) as to what Islam really stands for and fall into the trap of those who exploit its name for their evil agendas.]
