Is reading better or watching TV?

I say 50/50. Both are good pastimes. Reading is generally associated with increasing knowledge but television too fulfils the purpose just like reading and can be entertaining as well. Books can be of various types from light reading to serious stuff. And TV programmes can also range from light entertainment to programmes dealing with serious issues. That is why I think that both are equally good.

its clear reading, but i luv 2 watch t.v. Becz i like talk shows.

Reading.

The mere brute pleasure of reading - the sort of pleasure a cow must have in grazing.

T.V. isn't bad either but nothing can replace the pleasure of reading a book. The smell of print (I suppose not many people go about smelling their T.V.s), the feel of the crisp pages ... I wish I could chew my books. But I would never. For I feel like reading certain books again and again. E.g; Kim by Rudyard Kipling.

Just my humble opinion.

i think and am sure that reading is better ...
their's nothing compared to reading ...
and the knowledge gained from reading is much more...

supposing just to explain one line of a book .. u need to make a big film ...

but the good thing about tv is that .. it stays in mind longer .. as nearly all things that can be viewed are more understandable...

like when u r reading an experiment or reading a family story..
u may not exactly understand whats going onn ...
but when u see it in a movie... u understand the things better ...

but offcouse without doubt one should never watch tv much .. but read as much as ever ^^

I think reading is better then watching TV, but i have a silly habbit to watch TV, if i am in duty i watch TV up to 12 am mid night Oman time, if iam in leave  more then 2.30 am Oman times. lot of friends told me but still this habbit is not going from me and now Ramdan is coming may be full night watch TV ,moring pray and then take rest/sleep. you see my weakness, very silly habbit but still i love to watch TV 600 to 700 channels are available in system.Please donot critesize me that is my leaving /life style.I love to watch TV iinstead of reading books but reading books is better.

In ma point of view reading is better but watching tv is alsoo good,it doesnt mean that v just watch dramas there4 watching tv is not good, ma opinion watching tv is better bcoz there is some good channels as like geo ary from which v get knowledge, also get da idea abt current affairs.so many topics they discuss.really i dont watch tv so much u can say i abominat but i watch geo.

Watching is better for learning because any thing we see we do not forget but as we know that most things are in ritten form and if we try to convert these all in vedio form it is defficult to convert them all ,,so at last reading is better .

Ofcourse Seeing Something Is Better Than To Read Something.... I Cant Say Reading Is Not Better But As Compare To Watching TV Its Nothing At All... U Can Pick Information By Seeing Something But Its Hardly Can Be Say Tht U Can Get Knowledge Or Information About Something By Reading Books..

TV IS USED FOR GAINING KNOWLEDGE >>> 1 %

it may be true that watching tv is much more interesting ....
but i would rarely belev 1 0r 2 ppl saying dat they are watching tv for KNOWLEDGE
and internet too >>> it may be used n is an excelent source .... but but but.....
their r millions of distractions and its HARDLY used for knowledge...

finaly it depends on the PERSON.... n his intentions....

BUT BOOKS HAV SECRETS THAT NO OTHER SOURCE CAN REVEAL  .......
BOOKS ARE SPLENDED BEYOND WORDS COULD CONVEY .....
