Soul of literature

OPTING the most striking title for your novel, thinking upon the most untold character for the novel, like his/her looks, feelings, movements, voice, tone, blue and cat eyes, hair style, dress, beard and mustache and the body language. Further, you may sit on a beach or near a window of a small and beautiful room with your laptop, planning upon the novel that how to start. You may ask yourself that if I begin it with the nature, how it would be. If I begin it with the character, how it would be. If I begin it with the situation, how it would be. You keep on thinking.  The sea, should it be with blue colour water as someone sees it every day, or should it be different, leaving some room for the readers to think? The sun, should it be rising behind the sea or let it rise far away from the mountains? The temperature of the day should it be 25 degrees Celsius or 45 degrees Celsius when the sun is in the middle of the sky.
 The beach, should it be full of children playing football and volleyball, full of couples expressing their love for each other, full of over-aged people remembering their past days, or should it be with a writer, writing without pen and paper. Trees, should it be leaves green or yellow? Mountains, rocks, air and clouds, how these can be best described in white pages. The materials how they can be best mentioned and described in a novel. How to describe a chair, table, candle, pen, book, house, room, bed, bedsheet, sofa, bench, small garden of a house, television, cassette, CD, DVD, fan, heater, air-conditioner, lights, block, doors, windows etc? How best these can be fit in each page, the vocabulary, grammar, phrases, statements, quotations, dialogues, accents, and the language? After completion of the novel, you must be thinking of some praise from your fans and readers, rather than criticism.
 You might be one of the best writers, poets, novelists, story writers in the world. Believe it or not that the more the technology is enhanced the more human imagination and idea fly. It means there is a room for criticism in literature and it must be there. It doesn’t mean that Shakespeare was the father of English literature and he mustn’t be criticised. It doesn’t mean that Mirza Ghalib and Minto Rama, should not be read and criticised in Urdu literature.
 In Arabic literature where you find hundreds of names like Ahmed Shoqi, Jibran, Mustafa Al Minfaluti, Najeeb Mahfoodh, Edward Said, Mureed Al Barguthi, and many more. They must be read and criticised. Mullah Fazul, Karim Dashti and Attah Shaad are well-known in Balochi literature; they must be critically read and expressed.
 These names are not the end of the world of literature. You can add your name too in the list of novelists and poets.
 One of the types of criticism is called “Reader-response criticism” where it attempts to describe what happens in the reader’s mind while interpreting a text. A reader-response critic might also explore the impact of a particular text on his or her own ideas or values.
 For example one might reflect on how a particular character seems admirable or unlikable and why. One might reflect on how one’s religious, culture, or social values affect readings. It also overlaps with gender criticism in exploring how men and women may read the same text with different assumptions.
 Having an opinion that if such types of criticism are not understood and applied, then you are not at all serving the literature. You must have the guts to criticise the work of great writers, novelists, poets, and columnists fruitfully.
 Once a well-known poet Bashir Bedar said that: “The book will not remain for its author after it has been published”. It means that it will be for the readers, to read it, use it for reference and they have full right to criticise the work, no matter how popular he or she was in the past and no matter how positively they served the literature.
 More or less criticism is the soul of literature; the authors and their fans should not panic and be anxious about it. Authors must appreciate that someone has read his/her book and made some comments. It means that the readers struggled to have some time and valued the work of the authors by turning the pages of a book.
